Readers object to front page story on pornography I was appalled to receive my [Oct. 10] copy of the Chesterfield Observer that my 10-yearold son retrieved from the mailbox. Putting the title "Porn & Pancakes" on the front of your newspaper was either a serious mistake or a blatant disregard for your community at large. I am not against you placing this article in your newspaper, but place [it] in the middle, not on the front page for anyone to see. I have also used your newspaper for advertising my business. I understand trying to "entice" your readers to read the story, but I feel that you are exposing a market that is obviously not the intended source. We have so many things to worry about with today's youth; we don't need your help. Tracey S. Moody Midlothian Dear Editor, As the parent of two young girls, I was really put off by the front page heading "Porn & Pancakes" and the respective article. I feel it was very inappropriate, especially for parents who have kids that like to go out and get the mail and bring it in. My daughters are 11 and 6 and that heading and article is not the first thing I wish for them to see when they get the mail. I do not object to the article itself, just to its placement on the first page where young kids can see it. Nannette White Chesterfield Dear Editor, I second that. I am also going to take the time and call every advertiser in the Chesterfield Observer and let them know how the public feels. Having the word "Porn & Pancakes" in large print arriving in your mailbox from a local paper is not only inappropriate, but very irresponsible. Use some common sense! Rod White Chesterfield |
