Commonwealth's Attorney to investigate mailing

The Chesterfield Commonwealth's Attorney's Office has been asked to head up an investigation into whether the chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors violated the law by using funds from that county for a postcard mailing to constituents.

According to reports, Chairman Corey Stewart mailed postcards to Prince William residents, encouraging them to attend a public hearing to speak out on a controversial ordinance that proposed cutting off taxpayerfunded services for illegal immigrants.

Stewart used funds from his discretionary account to pay for the mailing. He did not have that county's communications department review the postcards' content, which is standard procedure.

Chesterfield Commonwealth's Attorney William Davenport will investigate whether Stewart engaged in any wrongdoing.
