"Agriculture in the Classroom Institute" for teachers scheduled at VSU Cooperative Extension at Virginia State University, in conjunction with the United States Department of Agriculture, will conduct an Agriculture in the Classroom Institute for elementary and middle school instructors. A staff development opportunity, one session will be held for elementary school teachers on Thurs., Nov. 29. Another session designed for middle school teachers will be conducted on Fri., Nov. 30. Free and open to the public, both sessions will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the L. Douglas Wilder Building on VSU's campus. Workshop participants will review the Agriculture in the Classroom curriculum, which is aligned to the Standards of Learning tests, learn about Virginia agriculture facts impacting food production, engage in handson activities designed for practical classroom use, and discover creative ways to incorporate agricultural sciences into their curricula. In addition, participants will receive lesson plans, a class set of Virginia agricultural maps and certificates that can be included in recertification portfolios. Registration deadline for both sessions is Nov. 25. Space is limited.
