Workshops for childcare providers to be held at VSU

Cooperative Extension at Virginia State University has scheduled a series of workshops designed for childcare providers, center owners, operators and directors. Childcare providers will receive certificates for two hours of professional development credit per workshop.

Free and open to the public, each workshop will be conducted from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the L. Douglas Wilder Building on VSU's campus. Interested participants are requested to register in advance and check in promptly at 6 p.m.

The following workshops will be offered:

• Math for Every Age, Tues., Dec. 18. Learn about simple math activities for infants, toddlers and preschoolers and explore children's math comprehension levels at each age.

• Science for Young Thinkers, Thurs., Mar. 20. Discover how to make scientific activities really fun for children and adults.

• Improving Transition Times, Tues., May 20. Find out ways to help make transitions smoother for children moving from place to place and from activity to activity and how this can make children more productive and tantrum-free.

To register for any of these workshops, call Mary Saunders, VSU administrative specialist, at 524-5966 or e-mail msaunder@vsu.edu. Anyone needing special services or accommodations in order to participate should discuss arrangements during registration.
