NEWS BRIEFS The Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office has received an award of $115,947 from the U.S. Department of Justice to reimburse some of the costs of incarcerating undocumented criminal aliens who have committed serious crimes in the U.S. The sheriff's office was among only 809 of the 3,140 eligible local entities across the nation that successfully applied for the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program funds. The overall goal of the program is to enhance public safety in communities throughout the nation. The sheriff's office has implemented an aggressive program of researching and applying for little-known federal programs to supplement the local tax burden through Justice Benefits Inc. (JBI). Dallas-based JBI is a public-sector consulting firm that specializes in locating and accessing hard-to-find federal reimbursements for local and state entities. The company assisted the sheriff's office with research, data gathering and analysis, and completed the federal application.
