Readers support change on county board

Dear Editor,

What a day for the citizens of Chesterfield County!

On Nov. 6, the voters of Chesterfield sent a clear and convincing message to the "good ol' boys": "Turn out the lights, the party is over!"

With four new supervisors and a completely different dynamic than has been seen for many years, if ever, 2008- 2011 promises to be interesting, if not historic. Who would have imagined such a dramatic change going into this year's elections? Yet, change is precisely what the voters chose on Nov. 6, 2007.

To the winners who will be new to the board, Dorothy Jaeckle, Marleen Durfee, Jim Holland and Dan Gecker, congratulations! You have been given a mandate to change the conduct of Chesterfield County business and government. If you fail to do so, don't expect the voters to place their trust in you again come the 2011 election cycle.

Congratulations to Art Warren, the only incumbent returning to the board, and a special congratulations to Omarh Rajah on his victory for the Matoaca District school board position. The voters will, I am certain, be greatly pleased with both of these selections.

With the 2007 elections now behind us, we can look forward to 2008 with great expectations!

Dear Editor,

The citizens of Chesterfield have spoken and, hopefully, a more open and inclusive government is on the horizon.

How well I remember the words and actions of Supervisor Kelly Miller when I "spoke out of turn" by answering a question posed directly to me by Mr. Miller at a board meeting. With a wave of his arm he proclaimed, "Deputy, remove the lady!"

Now, by their vote, the citizens have responded with a wave of their arm, "Bye, Bye!"
