Elizabeth Scott Elementary will finally be in session Elizabeth Scott Elementary students will soon move to their new school. Families were notified earlier this week that the school will open on Jan. 29. There will be no classes for Elizabeth Scott students on Jan. 28, so classrooms at the new school can be prepared for them. Workers will begin moving teachers into the building on Jan. 26, giving them through Jan. 28 to settle in to their classrooms before students arrive the following day. A meeting to discuss construction progress and the move-in date will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 7 at Thomas Dale High School. As of press time, school officials were expected to release an update on the status of the new Winterpock Elementary School in the Matoaca District sometime this week. Since the beginning of the school year, Elizabeth Scott has used space at Marguerite Christian Elementary and the Enon Annex, and Winterpock Elementary classes have been housed at Spring Run Elementary. Students have been with their teachers and classmates since the beginning of school so their transition into new buildings will be as smooth as possible. The construction delay at Elizabeth Scott was caused by an unanticipated lengthy process in receiving a deed from the state that was acceptable to the county and in receiving required easements from nearby property owners. The delay at Winterpock Elementary was caused by problems receiving the required easements from nearby property owners. |
