Supervisor-elect Jaeckle praises newspaper coverage

Dear Editor,

I would like to thank the Chesterfield Observer for its efforts to keep Chesterfield voters informed during the past election. Your sponsoring of the debates gave voters a chance to see for themselves who the candidates were and where they stood.

The weekly question and answer feature in the Observer during the campaign period gave voters an opportunity to see the side-by-side views of the candidates, so they didn't have to rely on only reading ads put out by the candidates themselves. This venue forced candidates to answer questions in all areas rather than only speak to the voters through paid advertisements that emphasized candidates' strong points.

At times, meeting the deadline to submit my responses hung over my head like a dreaded homework assignment. However, the comments I received and conversations that were started due to those Q and A's were invaluable as far as connecting with the voters. I'm sure other candidates had similar experiences.

Again, thank you for providing this valuable public service.

Dorothy Jaeckle
