Robbers in jail after citizens give chase
According to police, a masked man approached the 46- year-old victim shortly before 10 p.m. as she was exiting her vehicle at her home in the 5500 block of Marsh Light Lane. The suspect indicated he had a gun and then ordered her to get back into her vehicle. A second man stood nearby. The suspect then grabbed the victim's cell phone and purse, and both men began running toward the getaway car, driven by a third suspect. The suspect with the purse dropped it as he was running. The victim, two of her family members and a neighbor chased the suspects, and the neighbor tackled one suspect and held him until police arrived. Police arrested the two other suspects in their vehicle at a nearby gas station minutes later. Tavoris M. Courtney, 24, of no current address, is charged with robbery, use or display of a firearm in the commission of a felony, conspiracy to commit a felony and abduction and kidnapping. Hugh O. Plunkett Jr., 21, of the 6700 block of Arbor Lake Drive, is charged with the same offenses and possession of marijuana. Mikeala Ellis, 19, of the 11900 block of Swift Crossing Drive is charged with accessory to robbery after the crime and conspiring to commit a felony.
In other police crime reports: Brad McNeer Parkway. The victims were eating inside a restaurant in the 4700 block at 6 p.m. on Jan. 10 when the suspect, who had been acting suspicious in the parking lot, walked by the restaurant window and exposed himself. Jefferson Davis Highway. At 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 10, the suspect took the victim's purse from her shopping cart in the Food Lion in the 5700 block and quickly left the store. Ketcham Drive. On Jan. 10, the suspect entered a residence in the 4400 block through a patio door shortly after 3 a.m. When he opened the bedroom door where the victim was sleeping, a confrontation ensued, and the suspect ran off. Long Meadow Circle. Two school buses parked in the 2800 block were entered sometime between Jan. 11-13 and vandalized. Meadowburn Drive. On Jan. 14 at 8:30 p.m., the victim got out of his vehicle and headed to the door of his residence in the 5900 block. The suspect stepped out from the corner of the house, and holding a handgun, said, "You know what I want." After the victim handed over his money, the suspect left. Midlothian Turnpike. Shortly after 2 p.m. on Jan. 12, the suspect waited until all customers had left Gamestop in the 11600 block and then pulled a handgun from his waistband and approached the store's clerk. He threatened to shoot the clerk unless he received the store's money, and when he had it, he walked calmly out of the store. North Arch Village Court. The victim had just finished doing his laundry shortly after midnight on Jan. 14 and was returning to his apartment when he encountered the suspect in the breezeway. The suspect pointed a gun at the victim and demanded his money. The victim said he had no money so the suspect pistol-whipped him and then left.
