Chesapeake: Levels of service work here
      For almost 13 years, the city of Chesapeake in the Hampton Roads area has been using levels of service (LOS) standards to manage growth. It's worked well, according to the city's Planning Director Brent Nielson.

Pedestrian stabbed
      Police are searching for two unidentified suspects who robbed and stabbed a man in the 4800 block of Courthouse Road about 8 p.m. on Jan. 24. The victim was hospitalized, but his injuries were not life-threatening.

Police officer risks life to search for house fire victim
      A county police officer risked his life late last month when he responded to a residence in the 17100 block of Midlothian Turnpike. Officer A.E. Podpora was the first to arrive on scene and found heavy smoke, fire and chaos. It was believed a resident was still inside the home.

Fire department names new deputy chief
      The retirement doors have been swinging with a steady beat for Chesterfield Fire and Emergency Medical Services, creating many vacancies and the need for promotions to fill those openings. The latest wave of promotions came last week when Fire Chief Paul Mauger named Division Commander Mark Sacra as the county's new deputy chief.

      In the Jan. 30 issue, a story on the county's work session on the Capital Improvements Plan (CIP) incorrectly reported the plan had been approved. The public hearing for the CIP is scheduled for Apr. 2, and the board is scheduled to vote on it Apr. 9. The Chesterfield Observer regrets the error.
