Citizens ask for tax relief during public hearing
      A parade of county residents asked the board of supervisors last week for tax relief, mostly in the form of a lower property tax rate, during public hearings on the annual budget and property tax rate. Several of those speakers demanded the county cut spending to an annual limit of inflation plus population increase.

Apr. is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
      April has been designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, an opportunity to focus awareness on sexual violence and prevention. It is also an opportunity to acknowledge agencies that provide services to victims of sexual violence. Sexual violence is defined as any sexual act that results in physical and psychological trauma and injury.

Thomas Dale High School students to perform Chekov adaptation
      Thomas Dale High School's Theatre Department proudly presents an adaptation of Anton Chekov's "The Cherry Orchard" on Apr. 10-12 at 7:30 p.m. in the school's small auditorium. Hosted by the Chesterfield Specialty Center for the Arts, the adaptation is called "The Peach Orchard," and is set in the deep South in 1890, instead of Russia.

      Police busted several young adults and juveniles for underage drinking after responding to a party in the Woodlake Village Apartments just after midnight on Mar. 29.

Becoming a fool for art at John Tyler
      John Tyler Community College will hold its Third Annual Fool for Art Festival on Sat., Apr. 19, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on the Midlothian campus, 800 Charter Colony Pkwy. Rowing races on the river
      The Third Annual James River Regatta will be held at Robious Landing Park, located behind James River High School, on Sat., Apr. 19, beginning at 9 a.m. At least eight teams, including James River High School's varsity crew team, will compete in a full morning of races.
