School system honors Students of the Year
      Chesterfield County Public Schools annually honors two students from every school for demonstrating citizenship and the division's core values of respect, responsibility, honesty and accountability. During a banquet earlier this month, 124 students were recognized as Students of the Year for 2008.

Grass Roots 2008
      The Chesterfield Cooperative Extension Office is offering county homeowners personalized lawn management plans through its Grass Roots 2008 program. When homeowners register, a master gardener will come to measure the size of their lawn and sample the soil for laboratory testing.

School board struggles to balance budget after funding decreases from county and state
      The Chesterfield County School Board is expected to make some hard choices this week when members finally vote on cuts to balance the school system's FY09 budget (starting July 1). The fallout began earlier this month when the county's board of supervisors dropped the property tax rate by 2 cents, leading to a $6 million reduction in funding for the school system.
