Fun and physical
      It's no wonder that Clover Hill Elementary physical education teacher Cindy Jones won 2008 Teacher of the Year for her school. She figured out a way to make learning fun and physical all at the same time. For her efforts, she also won one of the county's MCD Awards for Initiative and Innovation - nearly $3,500 - to use toward her programs.

      Michael Trice got into a fight at Manchester High School and found himself kicked out of school at 16 years of age. He refused to accept being a high school dropout, so he applied to Commonwealth ChalleNGe.

Cameron Foundation solicits nominations for outstanding nonprofits
      The Cameron Foundation is soliciting nominations for its two annual recognition award programs. The awards total $80,000 for nonprofit organizations within the foundation's service area, which includes the portion of Chesterfield County lying south of Route 10. The awards are presented annually at the foundation's October Grant Awards Ceremony.

Cisco Academy prepares students for IT careers
      Kindal Williams' parents knew early on that their technology-savvy daughter would end up in the IT field. They had to pull her out of Marguerite Christian Elementary School one day because they were locked out of their computer and needed to do payroll for their business. Kindal unlocked it and went back to her first-grade class.

Newsweek ranks county schools among the best
      Four of the nation's best high schools are located in Chesterfield County, according to a report in Newsweek. James River (No. 205), Midlothian (457), Clover Hill (893) and Monacan (1,022) are among the top 5 percent of high schools in America, according to a Challenge Index that was published in the weekly magazine's May 26 edition.
