After several weeks of dueling plans - one initiated by the board of supervisors and the other by the planning commission - both versions of the Upper Swift Creek Plan (USCP) were merged together last week. The planning commission is recommending the board of supervisors approve the merged plan at its June 25 meeting. More ... A trash truck driver experienced some pretty scary moments recently when a utility pole snapped, leaving live wires draped across his mammoth vehicle. The driver was headed down Lewis Road on May 28 around 11 a.m. when the pole broke, sending electric, cable and phone lines crashing down on the truck. More ... Fatal traffic crashes took 21 lives last year. That's below the national average of 14 fatalities per 100,000 residents, but it's still too many. "We could reduce a number of fatalities if people would just wear a seatbelt," said Capt. Robert Skowron of the Chesterfield County Police Department. According to police, shortly after midnight on June 3, several people were involved in a verbal conflict in the 10400 block of Midlothian Turnpike at the Pocono Crossing Shopping Center. Residents can celebrate the fight against crime by hosting neighborhood block parties that bring neighbors and communities together. More ... Crenshaw Elementary Principal David McCrum (left) presents a gift to third-grade teacher Braden Way, who is a member of the Naval Reserves and leaves for his second tour of duty in Iraq this month.
