Men claim mistreatment by police, sheriff's office
      For the third month in a row, county supervisors once again listened to allegations of police and judicial misconduct last week brought by two men who claim they were mistreated after being arrested by county officers. The allegations stem from the arrests of Emmanuel Artis and Daniel Bennett at a Halloween party last October.

Vehicle crash leaves two trapped
      A multiple vehicle crash in the Irongate Shopping Center at 5681 Irongate Drive on July 28 around 12:09 p.m. created a harrowing situation for one driver and passenger. Upon arrival, emergency crews found an overturned minivan resting on its side on the curb. One person on the passenger side front seat was in the air, held in place by a seatbelt.

Roseland rezoning case deferred…again
Decision by board of supervisors is expected later this month
      The developers of Roseland will have to wait until the next board meeting on August 27, but passage of the largest planned community in the metro Richmond area - with perhaps some tweaking around the edges - looks assured then.

Lower phosphorous limit for upper Swift Creek rejected
      Wearing stickers proclaiming "no to .16" and "no compromise," representatives from county businesses, the development community and affected property owners turned out for the board of supervisors meeting last week, helping to defeat a proposal designed to reduce phosphorous levels in the Swift Creek Reservoir.

Board defers levels of service consideration until January
      The Chesterfield Board of Supervisors unanimously deferred a decision last week to consider implementing levels of service (LOS) countywide until January. LOS would set minimum standards for roads, schools and other services and be one reason the board could turn down residential rezoning cases.

11U Baseball Club accepts new players
      The 11U Chesterfield Elite Baseball Club is accepting new players for its 2009 season. Players who are 10 years old (as of May 1) and interested in playing competitive baseball in and around Chesterfield should call Dan Granger at 605-1621 to schedule a try-out.

Chesterfield deputy resigns after gun charge
      Rookie Deputy Stephen C. Phillips, 22, resigned from the sheriff's department after being arrested on July 26 on a gun charge. Police responded to a call at about 12:30 a.m. of shots fired near Thomas Dale High School.

Juvenile arrested for burglary
      Police interrupted a burglary at the Deer Run Food Lion at 13961 Hull Street Road when they responded to the store's alarm at about 1:20 a.m. on July 29. One arrest was made after a foot chase. Police are still looking for three other suspects who also ran from the scene. They are all described as young white males.

Two men convicted in robbery
      Hugh O. Plunkett Jr., 22, was convicted on July 29 on three felony charges stemming from the Jan. 11 robbery of a 46-year-old woman who was assaulted outside her home in the Foxfire subdivision. Travoris M.

State trooper injured in crash
      State Police Trooper Dylan T. Davenport, 30, suffered minor injuries as a result of a twovehicle crash at about 1:15 a.m. on July 30, on Interstate 295, just south of the Meadowville Road overpass. Davenport, a six-year veteran state trooper, was providing traffic control for the Virginia Department of Transportation in a "mobile" highway work zone.

      Police investigated the death of a 54-yearold man who was killed while working on his car in the 6700 block of Mason Valley Drive at about 2 p.m. on July 29.

Wawa robbed at gunpoint
      Police are searching for a man who robbed the Wawa at 600 East Hundred Road the morning of July 28. According to police, the masked man entered the store at about 2:25 a.m., held a gun on one employee, then pulled a second gun on another employee and demanded money from the cash register and safe.
