Search for larceny suspect continues

Police have made one arrest and are searching for a second man following an early morning chase on Aug. 5.

Shortly before 2:35 a.m., the two men allegedly stole more than 15 cartons of cigarettes from the Wawa at 11021 Midlothian Turnpike, and then sped away in a car. A police officer conducting radar on Midlothian Turnpike near Chippenham Parkway spotted the car and attempted a traffic stop with assistance from a state trooper. The car with the suspects raced into Richmond, where it struck an unoccupied parked car at Peyton Avenue and 34th Street. The suspects abandoned the car and fled on foot. Richmond police took one of the men into custody. Police are still searching for the other suspect.

Quincy E. Bentley, 37, of Richmond, is charged with grand larceny, felony eluding and driving under the influence of drugs. He is being held in the Chesterfield County Jail pending a hearing in General District Court.

The other suspect is described as a black male, 25-30 years old, with a medium build. He is bald and was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.

In other crimes:

Arcadia Avenue. On Aug. 3 between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m., someone stole clothing, money, firearms, jewelry and electronics from nine cars parked in the 2300 block.

Bundle Road. The Spencer's store in the 11200 block was broken into three times in as many days - between 10:10 p.m. on Aug. 2 and 5:50 a.m. on Aug. 3, between 11 p.m. on Aug. 3 and 3:45 a.m. on Aug. 4 and at about 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 4. Each time the store was entered through a window, and food was stolen.

Cromwell Road. At about 3 a.m. on July 30 in the 2400 block, someone lit fireworks in a resident's mailbox, causing it to explode.

Handel Court. At about 11 p.m. on July 30, several people were chatting in an apartment building breezeway in the 5600 block at Lantern Ridge apartments, when several other people approached them. One of the newcomers held a gun on the chatters while the other two searched their pockets. The suspects stole cash.

Hull Street Road. Between 4 p.m. on Aug. 1 and 4:30 p.m. on Aug 2, someone stole inspection stickers from 17 school buses parked in the 7400 block at Manchester Middle School.

Jefferson Davis Highway. At about 11 p.m. on Aug. 3, someone was shot in a parking lot in the 6700 block.

Meadowdale Boulevard. Between 10:30 p.m. on July 29 and 5 a.m. on July 30, someone broke into two drink machines in the 3900 block and stole money from both.

Shell Road. Between 8 p.m. on Aug. 1 and 6 a.m. on Aug. 2, someone broke into four construction trailers in the 8300 block at CSX Transportation and Fruit Growers Express. Three trucks also were vandalized. Fire extinguishers were sprayed in one of the trailers. Nothing appeared to be missing.

Troycott Place. At about 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 2, armed and masked suspects forced their way into a home in the 2500 block, ordered the occupants to lay on the floor and stole money, jewelry and electronics from them.

Walton Lake Drive. Between 8:20 p.m. on July 29 and 10 a.m. on July 30, someone pried open a basement door to the Walton Lake Community Association building in the 12700 block, vandalized the inside of the building and stole money and food.

Welby Court. At about 4 a.m. on Aug. 4, an explosive damaged a resident's mailbox in the 13400 block.
