Ninth Annual Bluegrass Festival begins Sept. 11
      Celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Virginia Folk Music Association at the Annual Bluegrass Festival and Virginia State Bluegrass Championship Contest, Sept. 11-14, at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds, located at 10300 Courthouse Road. The four-day event includes performances by James King, Alecia Nugent, Sonny Mead, Code Blue and Hard Drivin' Grass.

Golf tournament to support athletic department
      Chesterfield Community High School will sponsor a golf tournament to support its athletic department at Providence Golf Course, located on Providence Road, on Wednesday, Aug. 27. Registration begins at noon and will end at 12:40 p.m. Preregistration is suggested. The cost is $300 per team or $75 per person. All proceeds will go to the high school's athletic department.

Chesterfield County Fair opens this weekend
      The 95th Annual Chesterfield County Fair will be held Friday, Aug. 22, through Sunday, Aug. 30, at the county fairgrounds, located at the intersection of Courthouse and Krause roads. Fair hours will be Monday-Friday, from 4-11 p.m.; Saturday, from 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; and Sunday, from 1-11 p.m. Exhibition and arts-and-crafts buildings close at 10 p.m.
