Robberies continue at apartment complexes Two more apartment tenants fell victim to armed robbers last month when a man was held up on his porch in the Belmont Parkway Apartments and a woman was attacked in front of her building at Rollingwood Apartments. According to reports, the male victim had just walked his girlfriend to her car around 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 21 when two men came up behind him. One of them placed a pistol against the victim's head, and then they demanded his money. When the victim said he had none, the two men patted him down and, finding nothing to steal, ran away. Both suspects are described as thin, black men, 18-25 years old, and weighing 150 pounds. Both wore black clothing and black ski masks. During a similar incident, two men attempted to rob a woman at the Rollingwood Apartments in the 3300 block of Tanners Way on Aug. 20 at about 11:30 p.m. According to reports, the woman was walking back to her apartment after taking her trash to the dumpster when two men came up behind her. One suspect hit her, knocking her to the ground. They patted her down, but found nothing to steal. The suspects then ran away. They are described as two black males. One is 20-29 years old, and the other is described as 20-25 years old, 6 feet, 3 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, with a dark complexion, muscular build, some facial hair on his chin and sporting corn rows. There have been more than 120 robberies in apartment complexes since Jan. 1, compared to only 73 in all of 2007. Most have taken place at complexes in the Chippenham Parkway, Jefferson Davis Highway and Belmont areas. In other crimes: Beachcrest Road. Sometime between 3 p.m. on Aug. 7 and noon on Aug. 21, copper line and wire were stolen from a home under construction by Keystone Builders in the 13400 block. Genito Road. Between 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 22 and 4:10 p.m. on Aug. 25, someone stole several catalytic converters from vehicles parked at Smart's Towing and J & K Automotive in the 12900 block. Hull Street Road. Between 7:10 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on Aug. 18, someone stole gas from a vehicle parked at the YMCA in the 7500 block.• Between 5 p.m. on Aug. 18 and 7 a.m. on Aug. 19, someone stole inspection stickers from three unlocked cars parked at the Rockwood Shopping Center in the 10100 block. Jefferson Davis Highway. Between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Aug. 21, someone threw a cement block through a rear glass door to break into the Falling Creek Laundry Mat in the 6200 block. Once inside, the suspect(s) broke an interior door to get into the office. A hammer, which was left in the office, was used to break into the dollar bill changer. Coins and cash were stolen. |
