Board to study streamlining county government tasks
      The Budget & Audit Committee (B&A) wants to establish a citizen committee to help it determine how to improve the effectiveness of county government while reducing or realigning its cost. The new committee's name, who will serve on it and its exact functions have not yet been determined.

Dump truck driver injured in crash

      A dump truck driver was transported to the hospital after he lost control and crashed his vehicle on Branders Bridge Road near Bradley Bridge Road on Sept. 2. The call came in shortly after 11 a.m.

      One man was killed and another was injured when a building under construction in Chester Village Green collapsed last week. Man pleads guilty to running prostitution ring
NEWS BRIEFS
      A Richmond man pled guilty on Sept. 4 to charges of operating an Internet prostitution ring in the county. According to evidence presented in court, William H. Snyder, 51, set up a Web site last year where customers could set up "dates" with women. The site, in operation through at least last November, included sexually explicit pictures of the women.

Golf tournaments to benefit local charities
      The following golf tournaments will take place this month to benefit local charities: HopeTree Family Services The HopeTree Family Services foster care program will present the Sixth Annual Chip In For Charity Golf Tournament, sponsored by Wal-Mart, on Monday, Sept. 29, at River's Bend Golf Club. The tournament will be 18- hole captain's choice, with a 1 p.m.

Registrar outlines new procedures for voters
      Registrar Larry Haake says he wouldn't be surprised if 80 percent of the almost 200,000 registered voters in the county vote on Nov. 4. During the presidential election four years ago, 74 percent of the 183,000 voters did. So if you want to avoid waiting in long lines, he recommends voting in late morning or from 1:30-3 p.m. Polls will be open from 6 a.m.-7 p.m.
