James River High School invaded by exotic animals
     Scales and Tails Exotic Pets brought its collection of unique creatures to James River High School last week. Top: Turk, a 4-year-old Secada tortoise, tooled around the stage of the auditorium. Bravo! Awards established
      The Chesterfield Public Education Foundation (CPEF) is seeking graduates of county public schools who have made remarkable contributions to their professions and communities. CPEF will select five graduates to receive the first Bravo! Awards, honoring the outstanding accomplishments of the many living alumni of county public schools.

New place to play
     First-grade students play on Curtis Elementary School's new playground. Teachers, parents, the community and others worked together to raise funding for the $40,000 playground. A dedication ceremony will be held on Oct. 3 to celebrate its completion.

Food festival features magnificent menu
      Mark your calendars for an evening of fantastic food and great entertainment as Gregg Waldhauser and his fellow Rotarians gear up for the 20th Annual Magnificent Midlothian Food Festival on Oct. 1. "We do all of the work involved in putting it together," Waldhauser said. "My club, Brandermill Rotary, is just one of five Rotary clubs that put on the event.

Allen brings McCain's message to young voters
      Former Sen. George Allen brought the excitement of the upcoming presidential election to the state's youngest voters when he spoke at Cosby High School last Wednesday. "If you leave here today determined to vote the next time you can, and continue for the rest of your life, then this was all worth it," Renee Serrao, a government teacher at Cosby, told students.

      Clover Hill High School, located at 13900 Hull Street Road, will hold its Annual Fall Arts and Crafts Fair on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Artists and crafters from all over southern Virginia will be on hand with holiday gifts, handmade toys, decorations, baskets, wreaths, jewelry, baked goods and much more.
