Young coach teaches dancers to step to a different tune
      Manchester High School celebrated its homecoming earlier this month, but for Kelly Chrisco, homecoming has a more literal meaning. Just barely out of high school herself, Chrisco has returned to her alma mater as the head coach of the school's dance team, "The Lancer Dancers.

Celebrating Survivors
     Lisa Billings/Chesterfield Observer Verlean Randolph of Spa Express removes eye patches from Amanda Miller and Lori Felice (right) during Celebrating Survivors, a free day of self-care for survivors of domestic violence and the service providers who work with them. The event was held in recognition of October being National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Participants were treated to spa services and able to talk oneon one with legal counselors and others. It was offered in partnership with the Chesterfield County Domestic Violence Task Force, the YWCA of Richmond, the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance's Women of Color Caucus and Lucy Corr Village.

On-time graduation rate exceeds state average
      More than 84 percent of county students in the class of 2008 graduated on time, according to newly released information from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). County students continue to outperform their peers across the commonwealth. Virginia's overall on-time graduation rate is 81.3 percent.

Here comes the candy corn
      This holiday is fraught with mixed emotions for me. I lie in bed and think about the hours I spent trying to come up with costumes for the kids. Once when they were young, I bought them ready-made costumes. One of my own kids said, "Why can't I be a mummy like Sam? He has a neat costume.

BAMM Peanut Sale fundraiser
      The Bon Air - Manchester - Midlothian Lions Club (BAMM) will hold its annual holiday peanut sale fundraiser at Sam's Club on Midlothian Turnpike on Nov. 30 and Dec. 5-7 and 12-14. Hours on Fridays and Saturdays will be from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday hours will be from noon-6 p.m.
