Woolridge Rd. improvements put on hold
      The financial credit crunch is delaying Chesterfield's plans to sell bonds through a Commercial Development Authority (CDA) to widen Woolridge Road to four lanes from the Swift Creek Reservoir to Otterdale Road and Otterdale Road from the intersection at Woolridge Road to Hull Street Road, a distance of about four miles. The original timetable called for completion in 2012.

      A traffic nightmare unfolded on Nov. 1 around 6:30 a.m. when a car crashed into a utility pole on Iron Bridge Road at Chesterfield Meadows Shopping Center. The driver was not injured.

County's suspicious fire list grows
      Firefighters were called to the same vacant home twice last week after it erupted in fire. A black column of smoke rolled into the sky from the dense woods behind Perrymont Middle School in the 8600 block of Perrymont Road around 3 p.m. on Nov. 3.

Sunday Park parking issue delayed until Feb. 4
      A zoning violation over the inadequate number of parking spots at Sunday Park in Brandermill has been deferred until Feb. 4 by the county's Board of Zoning Appeals. KPC Properties LLC, owner of the Boathouse restaurant and the Gardens at Sunday Park, has appealed the violation notice, which calls for a fine of up to $1,000.

Fewer illegal signs littered roads this election period
      Despite a vigorous battle for votes, Chesterfield is reporting fewer illegal campaign signs in the public right-of-way leading up to the presidential and congressional races last week. "There were not as many as in past elections," said Ted Barclay, code compliance supervisor for the zoning department.

County receives 24th budget award

      Chesterfield County has been chosen by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada to receive its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. "On behalf of the county and my department, I am very pleased that we've been recognized for the 24th year in a row," said Allan Carmody, director of the county's Budget and Management Department.
