Brandermill board member ponders resignation request
      A long-time member of the Brandermill Community Association (BCA) Board of Directors is considering whether or not he should resign from the board as requested by the other six board members. Last week, the BCA board asked for the resignation of Jason Livingston, a resident who is an attorney and serving his third three-year term on the BCA board.

Community leadership courses under consideration
      As one way to shore up older neighborhoods, the Sustain Our Communities Committee (SOCC) and the Chesterfield University are considering creating courses to teach community leadership to volunteer residents. Tom Jacobson, the county's director of revitalization, urged that opportunity at last Thursday's SOCC meeting.

Teen arrested in Falling Creek school-bus fight

      A 15-year-old boy who is not a Chesterfield County Public Schools student was arrested last week after he was allegedly involved in a fight on a county school bus. According to school officials, the boy got onto the bus at Falling Creek Middle School.

      The Shepherd's Center of Chesterfield is seeking volunteers to help with its programs. The center is a nonprofit, interfaith organization of senior adults who donate their time, talents, professional expertise and more to help other senior adults remain independent in their own homes.

Kids' gardening and wildlife workshops set
      Chesterfield County Cooperative Extension master gardeners, in cooperation with the Richmond Audubon Society and Chesterfield County's Rockwood Nature Center, will offer a series of free gardening and wildlife workshops for kids this fall and winter. Each of the programs will be held at the Rockwood Nature Center, located in Rockwood Park, 3401 Courthouse Road.

"Ruff" committee seeks volunteers
      The Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for dog-owning volunteers to join the Ruff House Dog Park committee. Members of the committee will promote a safe, off-leash environment for dogs to enjoy at Rockwood Park. Volunteers will be placed on a mailing list and will receive the committee meeting schedule for 2009.

Training for landscape professionals
      Chesterfield County Cooperative Extension has reserved two seats for landscape professionals for its upcoming master gardener training program. In lieu of volunteer services, professionals may join the training to brush up on a topic or two, or many, by signing up for individual classes at a cost of $25 per class, or $500 for the entire program.
