County school board elects new leadership
Pettitt/Trammell will head up board

At its first meeting with two new board members, the Chesterfield County School Board unanimously elected Clover Hill representative Dianne Pettitt as its chair and Bermuda District representative Marshall Trammell Jr. as vice chair. Both are longtime board members.

Newly-elected to the board this year are Midlothian District representative Patty Carpenter and Matoaca District representative Omarh Rajah. Dale District representative David Wyman is also starting his first full four-year term after finishing out the term of his predecessor, Beth Davis, who passed away in 2006.

After assuming her leadership position, Pettitt swiftly went about divvying up appointments to several committees that require school board representation including the following:

• Math-Science Center - Wyman

• Governor's School for Government and International Studies/Maggie Walker Foundation - Pettitt

• Appomattox Regional Governor's School for the Arts and Technology - Trammell

• Metropolitan Education Research Consortium - Carpenter

• Board of Supervisors/ School Board Liaison Committee - Pettitt and Trammell

Trammell
• Board of Supervisors/School Board Benefits Committee - Carpenter and Trammell

• Superintendent's School Board Policy Advisory Committee - Pettitt and Carpenter

• Gifted Advisory Committee - Wyman

• Career and Technical Advisory Committee - Wyman

• Exceptional Education Advisory Committee - Rajah

• School Health Advisory Board - Rajah

• Chesterfield Public Education Foundation - Pettitt and Wyman

• PTA County Council - Carpenter and Rajah

• Chesterfield Business Council - Carpenter

New start time

The school board will begin its regular business meetings at 7 p.m. this year, 30 minutes earlier than in previous years.
