Senior Connections recruits long-term care ombudsman volunteers Senior Connections, the Capital Area Agency on Aging is recruiting volunteers to serve as advocates for residents' rights in nursing homes and assisted living facilities in central Virginia. The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program works to protect the rights of residents and resolve concerns which may adversely affect their quality of care. Volunteer ombudsmen make regular friendly visits to facilities and advocate for residents, helping facilities resolve and handle minor issues. Ombudsmen volunteers can be critical links between a long-term care facility and the community. A full day of training will be held for new ombudsman volunteers, and they must commit at least four hours of service per month. The agency's next training will be held in late January or early February. For further information about volunteer opportunities with the Senior Connections Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, call Susan Johnson at 672-4496. |
