Monacan High collaboration culminates in arts performance

Monacan High School students are collaborating with the Richmond Symphony and visual artist Joanna Tyka through January. Students in the Monacan band, orchestra, chorus, art department and theater department and in the Humanities Specialty Center are involved.

The collaboration will culminate in a performance titled "Celebrate America!" at 7 p.m. on Jan. 31 at the school, located at 11501 Smoketree Drive. The chorus, orchestra and band will perform with the Richmond Symphony. Art students will display paintings they created while listening to music, and Humanities Specialty Center students will display an Americana photo-essay. Work by theater students and Humanities Specialty Center students will be showcased in the program notes and in monologues that accompany the musical performances.

Tickets may be purchased in advance ($5 students, $10 adults) at the school or by calling the symphony box office at 788-4717. Tickets sold at the door will cost $6 for students and $12 for adults.
