Winter Lecture Series moves to 1917 Historic Courthouse

Because of a high level of interest in the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia's Winter Lecture Series, the remainder of this season's lectures will be held at the Historic 1917 Courthouse and not at Magnolia Grange as previously announced. The Historic 1917 Courthouse will provide a larger venue for attendees and is located at 10011 Iron Bridge Rd. in the Chesterfield County government complex.

All lectures take place on Fridays at 7 p.m. They are free for members of the historical society and $5 for nonmembers. Reservations are recommended.

The following lectures are scheduled:

• Feb. 15, "The Cold War and the U-2 Incident" with guest speaker Gary Powers Jr., founder of the Cold War Museum and Memorial in Fairfax County

• Feb. 29, "Virginia Taverns, Ordinaries and Coffee Houses" with guest speaker Dr. Agnes Evans Gish, author of "Virginia Taverns, Ordinaries and Coffee Houses: 18th-Early 19th Century Entertainment along the Buckingham Road"

• Mar. 7, "The Battle of Chester Station" with Civil War historian Ed Bearss

• Mar. 21, "The Events Leading up to Lee's Surrender" with Appomattox Court House National Historic Park historian Patrick Schroeder
