Newspaper fails to follow up on dismissal of some water restriction violations against residents

Dear Editor,

Your staff writer, Greg Pearson, is apparently more interested in sensationalizing the trivia than pursuing the real story. In your Nov. 7, 2007 issue, he apparently felt it was important to single out the individuals contesting the water restriction fines by printing their names and addresses in the newspaper. Unfortunately, he lacked the professionalism to follow up on the story and report that on Jan. 11, 2008 the charges were dismissed against at least four of these people.

Fines were issued to numerous Chesterfield residents prior to the water restriction being published in the local press. I wonder how many people paid the fine that should not have had to due to inadequate notification by the water department. I also wonder if the names of those who wrongly imposed the fines would have been published had there ever been any follow up on this story.

It appears to me that it is more important for Greg Pearson to add fodder to neighborhood gossip than report the improper penalties levied on Chesterfield residents by a utility company. Maybe Mr. Pearson would feel more at home writing for Style Weekly.
