NEWS BRIEFS Police are searching for two unidentified suspects who robbed and stabbed a man in the 4800 block of Courthouse Road about 8 p.m. on Jan. 24. The victim was hospitalized, but his injuries were not life-threatening. Police said the victim was walking home from the Rockwood Plaza shopping center when a vehicle pulled up behind him. Two men exited the vehicle, approached the victim, stabbed him and then stole his money. The victim was able to walk home, and a family member immediately contacted police. Both suspects are black males, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall. At the time of the crime, they were wearing blue jeans and black jackets and were driving an older, burgundy four-door vehicle. Anyone with information should call the police department at 748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 748-0660. Driver wanted by police A 19-year-old Dinwiddie County man is wanted in connection with a fatal crash on West Hundred Road last month that killed two of his passengers. Police have obtained warrants for Jamal Alexander Hall, of the 25900 block of Smith Grove Road, who is accused of felony reckless driving and driving on a suspended license. Hall is a black male, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 220 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information about Hall's whereabouts should call police at 748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 748-0660. Child killed in I-95 crash A 10-year-old boy was thrown from the cargo area of a 2000 Ford Explorer and killed while traveling on I-95 on Jan. 29. According to reports, Darby Reyes, of Hampton, was sitting with two other children in the SUV's cargo area when the Explorer overturned, struck a cement lane barrier and then overturned again, just south of Willis Road. Reyes, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle and later pronounced dead at VCU Medical Center. Six additional passengers were injured, but none were life-threatening. The driver, Cynthia Barnes Gilchrist, 50, was traveling from Hampton to Petersburg when the crash occurred. Charges may be filed against Gilchrist. |
