Property values in county are too high

I read your article [Jan. 30] on the Chesterfield assessments going up 11 percent and had to express that those people ought to consider themselves very fortunate as my assessment increased 50 percent. I also found your article very informative in reference to the person whose house is on the market and with the declining market values, his asking price is now 23 percent below the assessed value.

I called and spoke to the assessor who did the assessment of my property and expressed that very same thought. I could not get that concept across to him - that the assessment of my property was at the very high end, and the reality is that the market would not support it.

Thank you for the extremely informative article. I hope that you will continue to follow up on this very important subject matter.
