JDA is not a business organization

Dear Editor,

In [a] recent article [Jan. 23] concerning redevelopment projects in the Jefferson Davis corridor in Chesterfield County, the Chesterfield Observer mistakenly refers to the Jefferson Davis Association (JDA) as a business group. The JDA is a unique civic association of local residential and business leaders working closely with government officials to improve the lives of our citizens and the vitality of our business community.

Formed as a volunteer nonprofit group in 1992, we work to preserve the best of the cultural and historical character of this unique area while revitalizing areas undergoing redevelopment.

Although we had no direct role in the development of the Americana Mobile Home Park property, we have worked diligently to assist residents facing relocation. The proposed Moore's Lake Common project fits our vision of good development with both residential and business components. JDA will, as a diversified civic organization, continue to support projects that preserve and promote our rich past and build for a healthy future.

Rick Young

President Jefferson Davis Association
