College's Fool for Art Festival offers fun for everyone

Thurs., Apr. 17

 
Kindergarten registration, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., at all elementary schools. A child must be years old on or before Sept. 30 to attend kindergarten for the 2008-09 school year. Parents should register at the school their child is zoned to attend. To determine which school to go to, parents may call 748-1666 or visit www.chesterfield.k12.va.us, click on "Schools" and then "School Look-up Feature."

Family Story Time, 11-11:30 a.m., Meadowdale Library, 4003 Cogbill Rd. All interested children are welcome. For more information, call 743-4842.

STD clinic, 4:30-6 p.m., Chesterfield County Health Department, 9501 Lucy Corr Circle. This clinic is an effort to promote awareness of sexually transmitted diseases. Registration is limited to the first 12 people registered, and registrants must bring current proofs of income. The health department also offers STD walk-in clinics every Friday, with registration beginning at 11:30 a.m. For more information, call 748-1975.

Regional Puppet Ministry Training Festival, 5:30 p.m., also 8 a.m. on Apr. 19, Richmond Southside Church of the Nazarene, 6851 Courthouse Rd. This weekend training event is designed for youth leaders, children's ministry leaders, teachers, home school educators, ministry teams, church workers and anyone interested in learning the art of puppetry and other creative performance arts. David Holt Live in Concert, 3-5 p.m., Manchester High School, 12601 Bailey Bridge Rd. In honor of National Library Week, Chesterfield County Public Library offers an afternoon with David Holt, the multi-talented, four-time Grammy Award-winning host of "Riverwalk Jazz" on public radio. Holt offers tales, ballads and tunes told, sung and played on the banjo, slide guitar, spoons and other instruments. He involves his audiences in each performance with clog dancing, storytelling or listening to the uniquely haunting sound of a 122-year-old mountain banjo.
