County spends too much taxpayer money Dear Editor, I believe that when government wants to raise your taxes, it ought to be candid about it. Chesterfield County has elected to hold the tax rate [about ] steady but as real estate assessments continue to increase year after year, the end result is the same: more money out of my wallet. Generally, I believe government's appetite for taxes is insatiable. But, it's time to put the government on a diet. We need to work harder at separating essential from nonessential services, streamlining costs, and every day confront the presumption of government growth. Our economic freedom tomorrow depends on our willingness to stand up to new taxation today. Chris Winslow Midlothian |
