Car slams into wall

Becky Robinette Wright/Chesterfield Fortunately no one was hurt when a car slammed into this sound barrier wall along Chippenham Parkway.
On Apr. 11 around 5 p.m., fire and EMS crews from Bensley and Dale, along with county and state police, responded to the intersection of Chippenham Parkway and Dalebrook Drive for a single vehicle crash. Rescue workers discovered the driver of a SUV had lost control and hit the sound barrier wall. Officials said no one was transported to the hospital.

Apartment fire

On Apr. 13 around 9 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to an apartment fire at 611 Kim Ct. in the Rolling Woods apartments. A police officer who arrived on scene first reported smoke showing. Residents of the three water. Chainsaws were used to cut smoldering trees and logs to check for hidden fire. Other firefighters used special rakes and stirred the ashes to check for embers. The entire swath of burned out area was then covered with foam. No nearby homes were damaged. The fire is being investigated as suspicious.

Smell of gas

Firefighters were called to investigate a gas leak on Apr. 15 at 6930 Hopkins Rd. at Beulah United Methodist Church around 8:30 p.m. Responding to the incident were firefighters from Dale and Bensley stations. Also on scene was Battalion Chief #1 and the tactical safety officer. The incident was declared under control at 8:44 p.m.

Brush fire on steep incline

A call was dispatched around 10:30 a.m. on Apr. 16 at the intersection of Shoremeade and Melody roads, but the fire was not at the location the caller stated. Within a few minutes, Dale Engine #11 discovered brush and trees on fire behind a resident's home on Melody Road. The Wagstaff Volunteer brush truck 10 was dispatched to assist.

Crews encountered challenges fighting the blaze since it was on a steep incline and not easily accessible by a fire engine, forcing crews to drag their heavy hoses uphill and position equipment in two locations.

Fire crews completed the operation in about an hour and a half. All nearby homes and vehicles were protected, and no injuries were reported. A utility pole sustained some fire damage in the blaze. The cause is under investigation. story building were evacuated while firefighters extinguished the fire, which originated in the kitchen. Crews from Manchester, Bensley, Buford, Dale, Manchester at Courthouse and Quint 22, a unit from Richmond, responded. The situation was reported as under control at 9:22 p.m.

Suspicious shed fire

Crews could see smoke from a couple of miles away as they responded to a call in the 9600 block of Lost Forest Drive around 6:44 p.m. on Apr. 15 for a shed on fire. Fire quickly engulfed nearby trees and began to spread through leaves and brush on the ground. Responding were crews from Centralia, Dutch Gap, Chester, Airport, Bensley and Enon. County police closed both sections of Lost Forest Drive as fire crews got to work. Hoses snaked across yards and through the trees as firefighters blasted the fire with a deluge of
