Stranded boat, suspicious fire

The crew of Enon's Fireboat #6 was temporarily set off course on Apr. 25 around 9:15 p.m. when they received a report of a stranded boat on the Appomattox River. Unable to find the boat, the dispatcher finally received additional information indicating that the caller was confused and the boat was actually on the James River. Fireboat #6 changed course and discovered the boat had struck a partially submerged log, disabling the vessel. The crew towed the stranded boaters back to safety.

While returning to port, the crew learned an unattended campfire in the Dutch Gap/Henricus Park area was spreading. Personnel on board took quick action and extinguished the blaze. The crew finally arrived back to the station at 11:43 p.m.
