Millwood School to add high school grades

Ben Strohm (from left), Raven Harris, Branch Manager John F. Twombley IV and other employees from the Meadowdale Library have been recognized as the "Team of the Year" by the Chesterfield County Public Library. The employees' branch closed in January last year, and they have since been operating out of a trailer on Cogbill Road while a new library is being built.
Millwood School has announced plans to offer grades 9-12 beginning in the fall of 2009. The school is located on 79 acres on the western border of Woodlake.

A 27,000-square-foot academic building will be built by B.K. Katherman and house classrooms for middle and high school students. It will have 13 classrooms, a library/media center, two science laboratories, band room, chorus room, technology center, art studio, boardroom, health clinic and administrative offices. A new athletic field is also planned for physical education classes and interscholastic sports, including soccer and field hockey.

The school was established in 1989 with 20 students and moved to its current location in 1998. The school's Web site is www.millwoodschool.org.

The Chesterfield County Department of Utilities is joining public waterworks across the nation to recognize May 4-10 as National Drinking Water Week. The week brings awareness to the importance of safe drinking water. The department continuously meets or exceeds drinking water regulations and has never been in violation of a drinking water standard.

Chesterfield Community High School named Myisha Aldridge, Joseph Redwood, Joey Foster, Linda Sandoval, Lillian Soto, Adam Coghill, Lisa Broughton, Daven York, Camauri Williams, Philip Hood, Raven Carter, Sharabia Jones, Tybrienne Yates, Daniel Culver, Phontaine Richardson, Chelsea Johnson, Brent Raub, Kadeara Kearney, Daontae Darden, Jazzmin Burton, Daniel Culver, Chanica Chapman, and Angala Parra-Rodriguez as its students of the month for April.

Other Community High accomplishments include: An art piece by Tybrienne Yates was displayed in an exhibit for Youth Art Month. Daniel Culver and Chelsea Wright served as Community High's representatives to the Model County Government. Rekeisha Shelton has received a $14,000 scholarship to attend Ferrum College. Anthony Hopkins was accepted to ECPI with a $2,000 scholarship.

Comcast has added four new high-definition channels to its line-up, including AMC HD, Animal Planet HD, CNN HD and History Channel HD.

Morris
Defense Supply Center Richmond (DSCR) is one of five military installations to receive the 2008 Commander in Chief's Annual Award for Installation Excellence. The award recognizes installations for their exemplary support of U.S. Department of Defense missions.

DSCR has also earned one of 33 Governor's 2008 Environmental Excellence Awards for its management of the Virginia Regional Environmental Management System.

Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Services recently named Steve Whitlock as District 3 New Agent of the Year and also recognized him as first runner-up for State New Agent of the Year during its annual sales conference in Norfolk. Whitlock works out of the Amelia office and has been with Virginia Farm Bureau for two years. He resides in the Winterpock area with his wife of 36 years, Sharon. Together, they have two children and three grandchildren.

Virginia Farm Bureau also named Kevin Morris as a 2008 Master Agent. Morris works out of the Midlothian office and has served as an agent with Virginia Farm Bureau for 20 years. He lives in the Woodlake area with his daughter, Jamie.

County resident Megan Colletti will run a half-marathon in Napa Valley, Ca. this July through Team Challenge, which raises money for Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis. For more information on Team Challenge, visit www.ccteamchallenge.org.

Employees, family members, neighbors and community leaders celebrated 60 years of operations at the DuPont James River site last month. "Our team is very excited to be able to celebrate 60 years of safe, continuous operations in Chesterfield County," said Fran Montemurro, James River plant manager. The efforts of James River's employee-led safety team and safety audit practices have resulted in more than 26 years of safe operations without a lost workday case injury and more than 14 years since a medical treatment case at the plant.
