Discover what it takes to become a foster parent

Foster parent informational meeting, Mon., May 19, 6 p.m., Smith- Wagner Building, 9501 Lucy Corr Circle. Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services staff will provide an overview of foster care and will answer questions about the program. Spring concert, 7 p.m., Clover Hill High School, 13900 Hull Street Rd. This concert will feature the Clover Hill jazz band and concert band as well as the wind ensemble of the U.S. Fleet Forces Band. The concert will close with a joint performance of "Stars and Stripes Forever" by the Clover Hill bands and the Navy musicians. Admission is free. For more information, call 739-6230.

Greyhound Meet and Greet, 7-8:30 p.m., PetSmart, 1276 Carmia Way. Find out how you can adopt your own retired greyhound racer. Meet Frances Crutchfield, author of "The Adventures of Captain Cure," which features a canine superhero who helps cancer victims through crises and treatments. Illustrations for this children's book were photographed at Midlothian Animal Clinic. All contributions benefit Lee's Scouts Relay for Life Team of the American Cancer Society. Musket, Sword and Pike, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and same time, Sun., May 18, Henricus Historical Park, 251 Henricus Park Rd. Experience a day in the life of the soldiers of Sir Thomas Dale's militia. Visit with the soldiers in the Citie of Henricus, participate in a drill with the Henricus Militia, and see demonstrations of period tactics, armor, weaponry and artillery, including cannon firings at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children. Adopt a new, furry family member during this adoption event featuring animals from the Chesterfield Animal Shelter. Volunteers from the Chesterfield Humane Society will be on hand to answer questions and assist with adoptions.

Blue Sky Puppet Theatre, 10:30 a.m., Midlothian Library, 521 Coalfield Rd., also 1:30 p.m., Central Library, 9501 Lori Rd., and 4 p.m., Chester Library, 11800 Centre St. In this performance of "Pig Tales," a troupe of pigs learns how to share and take turns while putting on "The Three Billy Goats' Gruff" and "Jack and the Beanstalk." Woolridge Athletic Association Football Golf Tournament, 11 a.m. registration, 1 p.m. shotgun start, Birkdale Golf Club, 8511 Royal Birkdale Dr. Cost is $125 per player, $500 per team. Registration fee includes driving range, green fees, cart, boxed lunch, dinner and prizes. Proceeds will be used to purchase new helmets for the entire program.
