Aging in place program

In recognition of Older Americans Month, Cooperative Extension at Virginia State University will conduct a program to provide pertinent financial, medical and legal information to older adults ages 55 and over.

Titled "Aging in Place: Choices, Challenges and Opportunities," the program will be held on Thurs., May 15, from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the L. Douglas Wilder Building on VSU's campus.

During the program, Dr. Mabel D. Edlow, VSU family financial management extension specialist, will talk about financial scams that target seniors; a pharmacist will discuss the importance of following instructions when taking medications and cost-saving measures; and an attorney will answer questions concerning wills and powers of attorney.

Although the program is free and open to the public, because space is limited, anyone interested in participating must pre-register. Lunch will be provided for registered participants.

To register or for more information, call Edlow at 524-5253 or e-mail medlow@vsu. edu. Anyone needing special services or accommodations in order to participate should call in advance to discuss arrangements.
