Seven-day search for fugitive ends in Greensville County

Antle
A seven-day search for a man who assaulted a police officer after trying to fill a fraudulent prescription for Hydrocodone ended with his arrest in Greensville County the evening of Aug. 27.

The search began after officers responded to the Walgreens at 20 Buford Road at about 6:20 p.m. on Aug. 20 to investigate a report of prescription drug fraud. When the suspect, Steven P. Antle, saw the officers in the store, he ran from the store and got into a vehicle. Officers verbally commanded Antle to refrain from putting the vehicle in gear, but he reversed the vehicle, and then accelerated forward toward an officer. Neither officer was injured.

County police spotted Antle's van leaving a Willis Road motel near Interstate 95 at about 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 27. Virginia State Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect fled, exited I-95 and struck a tree on Otterdam Road. Antle then fled on foot into a wooded area where he was later taken into custody with the assistance of the Virginia State Police, Emporia and Prince George County police departments, sheriff's offices from Greensville and South Hampton counties and Greensville Correctional Center.

Antle is charged with assault and battery of a police officer, prescription fraud, impersonating a law enforcement officer, obstructing justice and being a fugitive from justice. Additional charges are forthcoming. Antle was also wanted in Tennessee. He is being held without bond in the Chesterfield County Jail pending an upcoming hearing in the county's General District Court.
