Wild ride ends in Nash Road ravine

Becky Robinette Wright/Chesterfield Observer Several occupants safely escaped their vehicle when it careened off Nash Road and landed in a creek.
Conditions were wet, and the ride wild for several occupants of a vehicle that lost control and plunged from a roadway into a creek off Nash Road on June 19 around 2:30 p.m.

A call was received in the emergency communications center for a vehicle overturned on Nash Road.

County police along with rescue crews from Bensley, Airport and Dale stations responded. The vehicle was discovered off the roadway, down a deep ravine and resting in the middle of a creek. The front end of the vehicle faced the Nash Road overpass, and to the rear of the vehicle was a partially submerged tree. Water poured into the vehicle at a fast clip and was visible at the window level of the doors.

The occupants, assisted by rescuers, safely escaped. Police have not said if charges will be filed.

Overturned vehicle on Cogbill Road

 

Sirens pierced the air as rescuers from Dale Station along with county police sped to the scene of an overturned vehicle on Cogbill Road near Cyrus Street on June 20 around 7 p.m. First responders discovered a vehicle on its side. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The accident is under investigation.

Early morning house fire

 

Firefighters were awakened to the sounds of emergency tones echoing through the station on June 22 around 2 a.m. when dispatch announced a possible fire on Pauline Avenue. Upon arrival, smoke was seen coming from the front door and windows. Over 1,000 feet of extra large and very heavy hose called supply line was laid down the path of Pauline Avenue, extending from the hydrant to a fire engine in front of the home. From the fire engine multiple lines of smaller hoses fed from the water supply and enabled crews to conquer the blaze.

Officials said no one was home at the time of the fire.

Responding to the incident were crews from Ettrick, Dutch Gap and Chester stations, along with Colonial Heights as mutual aid. County police, the tactical safety officer and a battalion chief were also dispatched.

The cause is under investigation.

Propane leak

 

Crews from Dale Station were dispatched on June 19 around 2 p.m. for the smell of gas in the air in the 6500 block of Irongate Drive. A propane tank was discovered as the culprit, and the situation was brought quickly under control.

Brush fire

 

Smoke curled into the air at Hull Street and Winterpock roads on June 22 around midday from a brush fire. Firefighters from Winterpock and Cloverhill stations responded.

The fire is under investigation by the fire marshal's office.

Another brush fire

 

Firefighters from Swift Creek and Clover Hill stations were dispatched on June 24 around 10:52 a.m. to a brush fire in the 5800 block of Fire Light Terrace.

The fire was quickly extinguished, and the cause is under investigation.
