Library to celebrate new digital service

The Chesterfield County Public Library has expanded its services with the addition of a downloadable, digital library that offers audiobooks and e-books. This free and easyto use service allows library cardholders to check out and download 2,000 titles electronically by visiting chesterfield.lib.overdrive. com.

All customers need to browse and borrow from the digital library is a valid library card, a personal computer and an Internet connection. Once a title is downloaded, it can be enjoyed on the computer or transferred to a supported device, such as an MP3 player or an electronic reader. Customers may select a lending period of seven, 14 or 21 days. At the end of the lending period, the title automatically expires and is returned to the digital collection. There are no late fees and no risk of damaging items.

To bring this service to customers, the library is partnering with OverDrive Inc., a Cleveland-based company and leader in providing infrastructure for premium digital downloads.

“This service is one more step toward providing the latest technology for our digitally connected customers,” said Mike Mabe, director of the Chesterfield County Public Library.

As part of the launch for the digital library, Central Library, located at 9501 Lori Road, will host the Digital Bookmobile on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The Digital Bookmobile is equipped with PCs, the Internet, high-definition monitors, premium sound systems, learning stations and a variety of portable media players. The community is invited to tour the bookmobile and explore how the library’s new digital-download service works.
