With friends like that...

Gwen Sadler

Friends usually have each other’s backs when crises hit. But often the instinct to survive outweighs people’s desire to help others, as one man recently found out when his friends left him to face a couple of robbers on his own.

At about 9 p.m. on April 6, the victim was hanging out with a group of his friends behind a laundry business in the 6200 block of Jefferson Davis Highway when the suspects approached. One of the suspects pulled out a handgun, pointed it in the general direction of the victim and demanded money. The victim’s friends ran away, leaving him alone with the suspects. He handed over his wallet, but the armed suspect struck him in the face before fleeing with his accomplices.
