Police hit the jackpot recently in arrests for solicitation of prostitution as a result of a two-day undercover operation in the Jefferson Davis Highway corridor. On May 20 and 21, female police officers posing as prostitutes were approached by men who requested sex in exchange for money. Once the men made that request, a nearby undercover team swooped in to make the arrests. Police charged 20 men with solicitation and use of a vehicle to promote prostitution.

Besthoff, 60, of the 1100 block of Clausson Road in Henrico; James E. Beyer, 58, of the 14100 block of Cherry Street in Chesterfield; Catarino Diaz- Guevara, 22, of the 1500 block of Treehaven Drive in Richmond; John E. Effler, 41, of the 9500 block of Duncan Road in Petersburg, also charged with possession of marijuana; Thomas R. Hesse, 57, of the 3300 block of Sussex Drive in Hopewell; Tyrone D. Hicks, 41, of the 4000 block of Peregrine Road in Chesterfield; Landon R. Johnson, 42, of the 200 block of Hodder Lane in Henrico; Julius D. Mattocks, 51, of the 200 block of Baliff Court in Northampton; Cisneros R. Medrano, 32, of the 6500 block of South Beulah Road in Chesterfield; Jose R. Miranda, 33, of the 6600 block of Elkhardt Road in Chesterfield; Ronald D. Norris, 64, of the 10700 block of Trailwood Drive in Chesterfield; Durbiel A. Paiz Garrido, 23, of the 6300 block of Jefferson Davis Highway in Chesterfield; James H. Pittman, 56, of the 5800 block of Westower Drive in Richmond; Corey L. Shelton, 40, of the 5200 block of Scott Street in Henrico; Michael B. Shifflett, 37, of the 7800 block of Belmont Road in Chesterfield; Shaun F. Tyler, 65, of the 3100 block of Parkdale Road in Chesterfield.

If convicted of soliciting for prostitution, suspects are required by state law to submit to an HIV test and must participate in counseling about HIV and its transmission.

County police will continue these undercover operations in areas of the county where prostitution activity is occurring.
