Mandatory water restrictions now in effect

Gwen Sadler

The weather has been unusually dry and the water level in Lake Chesdin, which supplies about 30 percent of Chesterfield’s water, is historically low, prompting County Administrator Jay Stegmaier to comply with the Appomattox River Water Authority’s request of its member jurisdictions to implement mandatory water restrictions. The restrictions are effective as of Sept. 15 for all county water customers.

The Lake Chesdin water level usually reaches its lowest point in October each year, but the level is currently the lowest that has been recorded since the lake was created. The lake is administered by the Appomattox River Water Authority.

See the ad on page 11 for a list of restrictions.

Any person found to be in violation of the restrictions will be subject to fines, which will be imposed on the customer’s next water bill.

For more information or to report a violation, customers should contact 748-1271.
