Cub Scout pack to sponsor Books on Wheels

Cub Scout Pack 1836 will conduct a book and bike drive for Books on Wheels on Saturday, March 19, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., outside Gordon Elementary School, 11701 Gordon School Road, Richmond. Donated books and bikes will be taken to Books on Wheels events in low-income or disadvantaged areas in metro Richmond and given to children and adults in need.

Books on Wheels will accept gently used bicycles, bicycle parts and books for all ages. No tricycles, textbooks, encyclopedia sets or magazines will be accepted.

Books on Wheels founder Shelley Briggs and some helpers will bring their school bus to the event. It is equipped with tools and storage space for bikes, parts and books. They also will provide basic bike repair to those needing tune-ups on their own bikes, or they will help kids repair their bikes themselves.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled, and donations will be accepted at the Pack meeting on April 8, at 7 p.m., at Gordon Elementary. For more information, visit www.bookonwheels.com.
