Armed robbers and would-be robbers were on the prowl recently around the county, with one miscreant making an attempt at literal highway robbery.

• A resident was walking through the parking lot of the Falling Creek Apartments in the 2100 block of Marina Drive off Jefferson Davis Highway around 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 29 when he was approached by two suspects. One put a gun to the resident’s forehead and demanded money. The suspects left with an undisclosed amount of cash and miscellaneous items.

• A driver was stopped for a red light at the intersection of Centralia Road and Salem Church Road around 10 p.m. on Aug. 31 when the driver of the vehicle behind him got out and approached his window. The suspect said he was a police officer, then pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim’s money. The victim said he didn’t have any money, and the suspect left the scene.

• An unspecified number of unknown suspects approached a resident next to her car in the parking lot of the Belmont Parkway Apartments in the 5700 block of Belmont Road around 2 a.m. on Sept. 1. One suspect held a knife to the resident’s stomach and demanded her purse. The suspects took the purse and ran toward Turner Road.
