Firefighters, DuPont employees evaluated after leak at plant

Two firefighters and 20 plant employees were transported to local hospitals last Monday and evaluated for exposure to vapor from heating fluid leak at the Dupont Spruance facility off Jefferson Davis Highway.

Fire crews from Chesterfield and Richmond were called to the plant at about 10:45 a.m.

The heating fluid leak was contained to the Zytel plant, but two nearby buildings at the DuPont facility were evacuated as a precaution.

All 22 people were released later that day, and nobody was injured by the leak, which occurred as employees worked on a manufacturing line.

Twelve employees were treated at the scene but didn’t require transport to a hospital.
