It takes a village

On Sunday evening, April 26, Brick House Diner in Midlothian opened for a special drive-thru spaghetti dinner in honor of 3-year-old Lila Roarty, who has been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Lila is the daughter of Carrie Roarty, a James River High School teacher and field hockey coach who died of brain cancer in January 2014.

The event was organized by friends of the Roartys and staffed by volunteers, including members of James River’s field hockey team and Monacan High School’s baseball team. More than 800 spaghetti dinners were sold, and all the proceeds will help fund Lila’s medical costs.
