Woman dies in apartment fire on South Beulah Road

A county woman died last week as a result of injuries suffered in an eastern Chesterfield apartment fire.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the front door of an apartment in the 6500 block of South Beulah Road when they arrived on scene shortly before 5:40 p.m. last Friday.

They entered the apartment, located and rescued 66-year-old Virginia Pauline Bailey, said Lt. Jason Elmore, a spokesman for Chesterfield Fire and EMS.

Bailey was transported in critical condition to VCU Medical Center, where she later died.

The county fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
