County to hold community meetings on megasite

ASH DANIELChesterfield’s Economic Development Authority will begin a series of open houses Wednesday to provide information to the public, answer questions and receive comments regarding the proposed industrial megasite in south Chester.

The EDA is applying to rezone 1,675 acres from residential to industrial and use it to lure a large industrial manufacturer to the county.

Garrett Hart, the county’s Economic Development director, confirmed recently the local agency has an option to purchase the property for $15.5 million.

There will be information stations set up to address various topics of interest related to the project. Staff from various county departments will also be on hand.

The county’s Transportation Department will be there to discuss the preliminary alignment for a 2½-mile stretch of the East-West Freeway, which is a critical part of the transportation infrastructure needed to link the planned megasite with Interstate 95 and the Port of Richmond.
